Fireworks sales heating up

Gilroy residents eager to blow stuff up for a good cause flooded fireworks sales booths on Sunday, the first day of fireworks sales in the city, giving some of the 16 nonprofits licensed to sell fireworks high hopes for exploding profits during their short, four-day sales season.

Hollister police union endorses sales tax measure

The Hollister Police Officers Association voted June 25 to officially endorse an extension of the city’s general fund sales tax. The vote came two weeks after the Hollister Fire Fighters Union voted to pursue a public safety tax of their own and come out against the general fund sales tax extension.

Fortino named Rabobank business banking officer

Phil Fortino has been appointed vice president and business banking officer for Rabobank, N.A. As business banking officer, Fortino is responsible for fostering relationships with small- to medium-sized companies and providing solutions to meet the banking needs of customers in Gilroy, Hollister and the surrounding area. Before joining Rabobank, Fortino served as small business banker for Bank of America and was president and general manager for his own company, Fortino’s Total Home. He attended Gavilan College in Gilroy and Fresno Technical College. He is involved with several organizations in Hollister, including the Rotary Club, Community Foundation, Elk’s Lodge, Chamber of Commerce and the Hollister Downtown Association.
