Marty: Don’t go blaming the unions
On Tuesday, the Governor of Wisconsin, Scott Walker, survived the much-watched recall election initiated by the state’s public employees. Closer to home the City of San Jose overwhelmingly approved pension reform, Measure B, that gives current city workers "the option of switching to a lower pension or staying in the current plan and paying off pension debt with annual contribution increases" - the city was sued immediately thereafter. While many voters, including me, support serious public pension reform, it is a mistake to blame the entire problem on the unions; doing so would let the other actors - the employees, the elected officials, and ultimately the public - off the hook.
POTW: Tucker
Hi, my name is Tucker (87356) and I'm a sensitive little guy looking for a home where I can blossom. Although loud rock n' roll music and wild parties aren't really my cup of tea, I still have a spunky side to me. My idea of the perfect date is sharing a few vienna sausages (if you don't feel like snacking I'm fine with munching on them all by myself too!) before bringing out the soft squeekie toys for some good ol' fun! I'm hoping to find a family who will also appreciate my intellectual side and that will continue my education through taking me to puppy school! Are you looking for a sweet companion that thrives in quieter settings? Stop by HSSV and ask to meet me today! Visit the Humane Society Silicon Valley, 901 Ames Ave., Milpitas, or call (408) 262-2133.
POTW: Everest
This week’s Pet of the Week is Everest (86567), a svelte 2 year old kitty who is one of our featured ‘Fee-Free Felines’! Gear up for the Summer Games by adopting this Olympic hopeful from Milpitas, California. He’s mastered the high jump and perfected his shot put spin thanks to coach Ashley, cat behavior specialist but now he’s ready for the big time: a new home where he can really shine! Visit the Humane Society Silicon Valley, 901 Ames Ave., Milpitas, or call (408) 262-2133.
