Wood sentencing delayed as he secures payback to police union

The sentencing of Ray Wood, the former Hollister police sergeant and 2010 sheriff candidate convicted of embezzling more than $100,000 from the city officers union, was delayed Friday until June so he has the opportunity to promptly secure and pay back the entire stolen amount.

Sex offender accused of lewd acts in 2009

Sheriff’s detectives Friday morning arrested a convicted sex offender on suspicion of oral copulation and lewd and lascivious acts with a minor in 2009, according to the sheriff’s office.

Community Spotlight: YMCA hosts Healhty Kids Day; Outdoor Club cleans riverbed

The YMCA had more than 500 members of the community join in celebrating Healthy Kids Day April 21. The annual event had more than 44 nonprofits and local businesses participating in the outdoor fair. They raffled off eight sports balls and offered the first day to sign up for summer camp. More spaces are available and those that sign up before May 15 will get a free camp T-shirt.

Feds accept hospital’s remedy plan

A plan of correction addressing “serious” and “critical” deficiencies at Saint Louise Regional Hospital received the stamp of approval from the Federal Department of Health and Human Services, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, which will conduct an unannounced follow-up survey within the year to ensure the hospital is meeting all the conditions of participation as a Medicare provider.
