The YMCA had more than 500 members of the community join in celebrating Healthy Kids Day April 21. The annual event had more than 44 nonprofits and local businesses participating in the outdoor fair. They raffled off eight sports balls and offered the first day to sign up for summer camp. More spaces are available and those that sign up before May 15 will get a free camp T-shirt.

Hollister farmers market starts next week

The Downtown Hollister Farmers Market will open for the season on May 2, from 3 to 7 p.m., on Fifth Street. The market will be open Wednesdays through Sept. 26. Residents can again expect to find many vendors selling locally grown produce as well as a mix of other items.

Business Buzz: Bill’s Bullpen taking part in Free Comic Book Day

Bill’s Bullpen, 207 Fourth St., in Hollister, will participate in Free Comic Book Day May 5. Bill’s Bullpen is one of thousands of comic book shops around the world that will be giving away free comic books. The stores will give away a grand total of two million comic books. The event starts at 10 a.m. and will run until all the free comic books are given out. Details: 636-1180.
