Dear Editor,

Regarding Serdar Tumgoren’s story on Feb. 12, (A Tale of Two Ranches) I want to clarify that Ms. Irene Zwierlein does not represent the continuous historic and legitimate Amah Mutsun Tribal Band. Ms. Zwierlein resigned as chairperson effective March 18, 2000. Mr. Pierce is aware of her resignation. The proposed land use deal for Sargent Ranch will not benefit any of our nearly 550 Tribal members who are not represented by Ms. Zwierlein. Because Sargent Ranch is one of the Amah Mutsun’s most spiritual sites, the Amah Mutsun Tribal Band is opposed to the development on this property proposed by Mr. Wayne Pierce and Ms. Zwierlein. The Amah Mutsun Tribal Band welcomes the public to contact the Tribal Council and learn more about our work in the community and our Tribal history. We can be reached at (916) 481-5785.
