The San Benito County Police Activities League (PAL) is holding its inaugural benefit fundraiser basketball game at San Benito High on Feb. 20 at 7 p.m. Members of local law enforcement and public safety will play a game against former NFL players and former Team USA women’s basketball player Ruthie Bolton.
In addition to Bolton, some of the former pros who are scheduled to appear include Eric Wright, the former 49ers cornerback who last played in the 2013 season; Jeff Barnes, a former Raiders linebacker who played with the team from 1977 to 1987; Mike Merriweather, a three-time Pro Bowler who played in the league from 1982 to 1993; and “Swervin’ Mervin” Fernandez, a wide receiver who played six years in the Canadian Football League and five years in the NFL with the then-Los Angeles Raiders.
In 2006, Fernandez was voted one of the CFL’s Top 50 players of the league’s modern era.
