Ohlone beats Rams 13-1, snaps Gavilan’s winning streak at 3
Gilroy
The Gavilan College softball team were winners of three straight before they had that streak snapped Thursday in Gilroy.
Visiting Ohlone College connected for 12 hits and scored 13 runs against Gavilan and defeated the Rams 13-0 in five innings.
“We had a rough outing,” manager Nikki Dequin said. “A rough day.”
Pitcher Danielle Hernandez threw five innings and allowed 12 hits, however the Gavilan defense committed five errors.
“We just committed way too many errors,” Dequin said. “[Hernandez] would get them to hit the ball on the ground and we weren’t able to make the play. That just killed us.”
Mikhaela Osuna had two hits in the game.
On Wednesday, the Rams edged Chabot College 4-3 behind multi-hit games from Danielle Scibuola, Osuna, Alicia Reese and Audra Brown.
Hernandez picked up the win after she allowed three runs on eight hits. Both teams pocketed a pair of runs in the seventh inning.
On Tuesday, Gavilan pounded 15 hits and pummeled Mission College 13-1.
Hernandez picked up the win in that game as well, and was supplied with more than enough offense to boot. Scibuola had two doubles, three RBIs and three stolen bases, Reese added a pair of triples, and Amanda Perez had three singles and three RBIs.
“Overall, we had a good week,” Dequin said. “To me, it looked like we were a little intimidated by (Ohlone). But we’re one of the top 15 teams in Northern California. We can battle with anybody.”
The Rams are now 8-7 in the Coast Conference – South, 24-14 overall.
Gavilan will play in the West Valley College Tournament at Mission and Mendocino College on Saturday and Los Medanos and Contra Costa College on Sunday.
