Letter: Thank goodness for local grocers
Thank goodness for local, independent business owners. Big chain grocery stores have to sell what their corporate offices/headquarters decide what they want us to buy, but independents will try to special order produce and other groceries that the customer would like to buy. From personal experience, thank you to Farm Fresh Market on Airline Highway and Baler Market on Third Street. Let’s support all of our local businesses!
Letter: Responding to ‘Home Sweat Home’
A "Self-Help Home" is indeed made with sweat and with the necessary help from an assortment of loans. The best of all made my eyes pop wide. The State of California Department of housing and Community Development contributed up to $60,000 with ZERO percent interest. That makes me the most proud. "Hooray," for government like that!

Letter: AG nominee a real coal miner’s daughter
Happy that President Obama has nominated Loretta Lynn for attorney general. Now he will realize how important it is to dig for fuel here in the United States from a bona fide coal miners’ daughter.
Letter: Big Oil trying to trump will of the people
So Big Oil is going to sue San Benito County. Will this be judged a frivolous attempt or will it actually reach the courts? People voted to prevent toxins in air and water and the drilling vibrations over unstable fault lines. Clear Big Oil does not care for future generations but only their relentless pursuit of money for themselves. Should Big Oil win – over the will of the people – it will signify the end of Democracy.
Letter: Mayoral candidate takes time away
Farewell city council meetings, I am taking some time off for all of what I went through with this election. They will never let people be involved; I was lied to, to my face. For example, I had an endorsement packet from the firefighters association for an endorsement letter. I never received anything. Then I come to find out they were never giving one out. So why would they give me a packet and make me go through the process and then say they are not doing that this year? I also did one for the county chambers. Another mislead there. It was all a joke to them. Another thing is when I was getting my nominations to run, I turned it in and was qualified on Aug. 4, 2014. Then I was told I had to go back out there and get more because the signatures were not valid, signatures from the thrift shop owner and coffee shop owner and other businesses. When I looked at Ignacio’s signatures and they were so unreadable and scribbled. But yet they all passed. It was ridiculous. That is how I feel they do not treat people equally. Another example; I found out on Nov. 4, the day of the election that the person in charge there told me that Ignacio got the endorsement letter because he employs people. Where is the job creation? There is none. They have top salaries and make enough money off overtime. They can do whatever they want. And avoid work.
Letter: Assemblyman thanks veterans
Last Tuesday, our nation honored and remembered brave men and women who have served our country in the armed forces or who paid the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom. We should continue to recognize them year round and more importantly, continue to teach our younger generations about the importance of honoring our veterans from an early age.
