Bi-planes perform for the crowd during the third annual Hollister Airshow.

Although the Hollister Airshow lost about $1,400 in its fourth year, the head organizer deemed it a success and heralded the event as a cheap form of advertising.

Airport Director Mike Chambless, who oversees the Memorial Day weekend event at the Hollister Municipal Airport, did not have attendance figures available as of late last week and was hoping to have those available before the airport commission meeting, likely set for June 19, he said.

He did say officials estimated revenue figures and believe there will be that slight loss. Estimated revenue came to $41,347 – with costs at about $42,749.

Chambless called this year’s event a success.

“I consider it that way,” he said. “That expense, for the airport to pay for advertisement, is nothing.”

Otherwise, he said everything else went well and everyone stayed safe, with one “hiccup.”

“Things went well. It went smoothly,” he said. “We had a minor hiccup where one of the performers got hurt in the hotel room and couldn’t perform. Other than that, that was our major hiccup.”

Chambless explained that aerobatics performer Eddie Andreini slipped in a hotel bathtub and broke a rib.

While officials await the release of attendance figures, the status for next year’s event remains unclear. Chambless said he expects to discuss possible dates for 2014 at an early July council meeting.
