A Calstar helicopter readies to transport the victim to Natividad Medical Center in Salinas.

A vehicle struck a pedestrian walking in a crosswalk in San Juan Bautista on Tuesday afternoon, and emergency responders had to transport the male victim in his 60s to a trauma center.
The accident was reported at about 1:45 p.m. Tuesday at Fifth and Muckelemi streets next to Abbe Park. Paramedics and Hollister firefighters responded, with the sheriff’s office handling the investigation.
After responders treated the male, while many locals looked on, Calstar transported the man to Natividad Medical Center in Salinas, Hollister Division Chief Leo Alvarez told the Free Lance.
Alvarez didn’t know whether there was fault involved and referred questions on the investigation to the sheriff’s office.
“The driver just claimed she looked both ways and didn’t see him,” Alvarez said, then adding more about the victim. “He was breathing and talking to us pretty decent.”
