This past weekend, visitors to Pinnacles National Monument were able to attend programs and talk to staff to educate themselves about the monument.

Music, a bonfire, mountain men, tours and exhibits were part of the activities available for people to participate in. Program topics included condor reintroduction, raptor monitoring, red-legged frogs and amphibians, bats and invasive plant eradication.

Park Superintendent Erik Brunnemann said the event went well, and that additional food and water supplies had to be brought in due to the number of attendees.

Congressman Sam Farr made an announcement that he will propose legislation that would officially make Pinnacles a national park. Brunnemann said Farr wants to start a feasibility study that would deem Pinnacles and the area around it as historic.

There was also an alumni dinner Saturday night that Brunnemann said more than 160 people attended.
