Hollister police detected a gas leak Monday night in the area of Locust Avenue and Virginia Street, according to a press statement.
According to the latest announcement from police shortly before midnight:
At approximately 7:30 PM a gas leak was located by HFD crews in the area of Locust Ave & Central in Hollister, CA.
The area of Locust Ave & Virginia was evacuated (one block in each direction). Those that live close to this area but not within this zone were asked to shelter in place.
UPDATE – PG&E are working on the area to isolate the leak. They have reported that they appear to be close and will update when residents can return to the affected area.
Some evacuees may be displaced for an additional 4 hours after the scene is stabilized, due to related construction and mitigation efforts. Those evacuees will be given shelter at the Veterans Memorial Building in the interim.
