Tomas Venegas

Hollister police Tuesday morning served search warrants related to the reported exchange of gunfire that occurred Sunday and arrested one suspect in the case, a police captain confirmed.

Police shortly after 7 a.m. served two search warrants at separate locations.

At a home in the 800 block of B Street, police conducted a search and arrested Tomas Venegas Jr., age 25. He is one of multiple suspects in the exchange of gunfire reported around 1 p.m. Sunday in the 200 block of Teresita Court, Capt. David Westrick said.

There were no reported injuries and no suspects in the area when police arrived Sunday. About 90 minutes after the report came through, police arrested Venegas for suspected driving under the influence and found a bullet hole in the truck.

Investigators later determined they believed he was involved in last weekend’s shootout, and followed up with the search and arrest Tuesday. At the B Street location, police also arrested Tomas Venegas Sr., the shooting suspect’s father, for an unrelated warrant from another county.

Police on Tuesday morning served a separate search warrant in the 700 block of Las Palmas Drive but did not find a suspect they thought may have been there, Westrick said.

“We’ve gotten a number of leads on it and we’re kind of sifting through the evidence,” Westrick said.

If anyone has information, they should call police at (831) 636-4330 or anonymously on the WeTIP line at 800-78-CRIME.
