Dear Editor:
An emotional dedication of the World War II Memorial was a tribute to the sacrifices made by the greatest generation ever. During World War II, more than 400,000 servicemen gave their lives to keep America free.
Attending the dedication were past and present elected officials representing different military thinking factions in America.
Former Senator Bob Dole lost an arm to German gunfire in Italy and former President Bush’s fighter plane was shot down by the Japanese in the Pacific. They represented all those who served in the military during World War II.
National Guard jet pilot President G.W. Bush represented today’s brave military men and women who, in far away countries, fight and die to keep America safe.
Senator John Kerry, who blames Vietnam War veterans’ atrocities against civilians, represented anti-war protesters and socialist organizations like Move On and Amnesty International.
While brave American servicemen lay dying on the battlefields of Vietnam, former President Clinton protested that war by marching by in communist Russia. Saturday, Clinton represented all military draft dodgers who have fled to foreign countries and let others die for that freedom to return.
After the surprise attack on 9/11, President Bush, like President Roosevelt, saw the threat of evil determined to destroy America’s way of life. Again our military is fighting a war in other lands to keep blood from flowing on the streets of America. Anti-war protesters did not deter President Roosevelt and will not deter President Bush to keep America the land of the free and home of the brave.
Lest we forget.
