Behind a match-high seven goals from Nick Angulo, the San Benito boys water polo team defeated host Palma 12-7 Monday at Santa Catalina in Monterey.

Angulo scored three of the Balers’ four goals in the first half to give San Benito a 4-2 edge at the break, while a five-goal effort by the Balers in the third quarter — Angulo scored four of the five goals — provided San Benito with a bit of breathing room heading into the final stanza.

Tyler Reuther, Joe Larson, Jake Garcia, Carlos Huerta and Danny Jarrett each provided the Balers with one goal apiece in the league win, which improves San Benito to 3-3 overall, 2-0 in the Tri-County Athletic League.

Keeper Trevor Agan had six saves in the match.

The Chieftains, meanwhile, drop to 0-2 in the TCAL, 0-4 overall.

The Balers will host Stevenson on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m.

San Benito Girls Water Polo

Caitlin Schafer scored seven goals and added nine steals, and the San Benito girls water polo team dispatched host Santa Catalina 17-2 on Monday in Monterey.

Hannah Smith added five goals for the Balers, who improve to 5-3 overall on the season, 2-0 in the Tri-County Athletic League.

Lauren Lango pocketed two goals for San Benito as well, while Jeanett Rodriguez, Rachel Estep and Lindsay De La Torre each added one goal for San Benito.

The Balers will host Stevenson on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.
