The San Benito High boys water polo team compiled an 0-3 record at the Padre Invitational in Carmel last weekend.

The Balers dropped their first two games by convincing margins. In the opener, San Benito lost 21-5 to Aptos, then fell 20-10 to Willow Glen.

“But Willow Glen and Aptos are pretty stout teams,” San Benito head coach Tom Agan said.

Nick Angulo had three goals against Aptos, two against Willow Glen, while Josh Schafer deposited two in the first game and seven against Willow Glen.

Keeper Trevor Agan had a combined 14 saves in the first two games, while Danny Jarrett also had a goal.

San Benito suffered a third loss in its final game of the invitational, although posted “a little more encouraging score,” Agan said, when it lost to Live Oak 19-11.

The game was tied 7-all at halftime, and the Balers trailed by a narrow 12-8 margin after three quarters. But the fourth quarter proved to be San Benito’s demise, as the Acorns outscored the Balers 7-3 in the final stanza.

San Benito, however, was playing its third game in five hours.

Angulo led the team with six goals and Schafer added three. Tyler Agan had two saves.

The Balers (7-10, 3-3 TCAL) will host Palma Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.
