The San Benito High boys water polo team compiled a 1-2 record at the Monta Vista Invitational last weekend, despite Josh Schafer pocketing a combined 20 goals in the three games.

The Baler boys lost their opener 16-10 against Monta Vista, with Schafer depositing six scores. Nick Angulo had two goals, while Danny Jarrett and Tyler Reuther each added one.

San Benito edged Tokay (Lodi) in its second contest 14-13 behind an eight-goal effort from Schafer. Angulo added three goals and Jarrett tacked on two more with Tyler Agan scoring one.

But San Benito couldn’t end the tournament with a winning record when it lost to Pioneer 15-7. Schafer had six goals in the contest, while Angulo added one.

Keeper Trevor Agan, meanwhile, had 13 saves against Tokay and nine against Pioneer.

The Balers are now 9-12 overall. San Benito will open the Tri-County Athletic League Tournament against Palma on Wednesday at Carmel High School.

Match time is 4:30 p.m.

SBHS Girls Water Polo

The San Benito High girls water polo team will open the Tri-County Athletic League Tournament against Monterey on Tuesday at Carmel High School.

Match time is 6:30 p.m.
