The San Benito boys and girls water polo teams will open the 2010 Tri-County Athletic League Tournament on Tuesday at Santa Catalina High in Monterey.
The Baler girls, which earned the No. 2 seed entering this week’s tournament, will square off against Santa Catalina Tuesday at 5:15 p.m.
The Balers have just one loss to their name, and that came recently against top-seeded Gilroy.
With a win Tuesday, San Benito would advance to Thursday’s semifinal, again at Santa Catalina. Match time is at 5:15 p.m.
The Baler boys, meanwhile, earned the No. 3 seed for the year-end tournament, and will square off against Palma Tuesday at Santa Catalina. Match time is 6:30 p.m.
With a win, San Benito would play Thursday at a time and location that has yet to have been announced.
Last weekend, in their final tune-up to TCALs, the Balers compiled a 1-2 record at the Monta Vista Invitational in Los Gatos.
“We were in all the games,” San Benito head coach Tom Agan said.
San Benito lost the opener to Woodside 16-13, although the match was tied at 12-all entering the fourth quarter.
The team then followed with a 17-6 victory over Fremont, but lost the finale to Los Gatos 13-8.
Agan said the final match against Los Gatos had poor officiating, and the San Benito head coach pulled many of his starters in order to remain healthy for this week’s TCAL Tournament.
Nick Angulo led the Balers with 14 goals scored in the three matches, while teammate Josh Schafer trailed with 11 goals scored.
Jake Garcia had four goals scored, while Carlos Huerta (3), Danny Jarrett (2), Joe Larson (2), Tyler Reuther (1) and Jaret Barios (1) contributed goals as well.
