Editor,

The southern slave states, which broke away from the Union, were completely dependent on the institution of slavery for their survival.

The plantations can be equated to Nazi concentration camps. The slaves in the South were held against their will, they were subject to murder, rape, torture and every other type of debasement.

The whites in the South didn’t believe the slaves were human just as the Nazi’s didn’t believe the Jews and other non-Arians were human. To honor the Confederate flag is to honor this legacy. I am proud that my ancestors fought not only to preserve the Union but also to set men free.
