While my son, Cpl. Eric Haller, of the Marine Fighter Attack Squadron VMFA-251 “Thunderbolts” was training at Miramar, Calif., this week he learned during a speech by President George Bush that his unit, the 1st Marine Expeditionary Force, earned the Presidential Unit Citation. This award was given by Navy Secretary Gordon England to these Marines for their “extraordinary heroism and outstanding performance” during the invasion of Iraq. The award is the highest given by the U.S. military to an entire unit. Proud doesn’t cover what I feel for my son. He and his squadron will always answer the call to defend our country with honor and pride.

Eric’s mom,
