Jesse John Crow is scheduled to return to court March 26 for a preliminary hearing on a charge he murdered his wife of six months, whose body remains missing.

Judge Russell D. Scott set the date Wednesday during a hearing in Monterey County Superior Court.

Ryann Bunnell Crow, 23, was last seen driving near her in-laws’ Prunedale home Jan. 30, the night she failed to show up for her father’s birthday party. Her family reported her missing Feb. 2 after she missed two days of work at a Salinas flower shop. Her 2002 white Chevy Malibu was located Feb. 9 in Foster City.

Jesse John Crow, 33, was arrested a week later on suspicion of murder, a charge that became official Feb. 22 in Scott’s courtroom. Crow has entered a plea of not guilty.

Crow remains in Monterey County Jail in lieu of $3 million bail.

Salinas police stated they have blood and DNA evidence to support their conclusion that Ryann Crow is dead and that her husband is responsible. They have not said where the blood was found.

Monterey County District Attorney Dean Flippo decided to proceed with Jesse John Crow’s prosecution based on “a substantial, tremendous amount of circumstantial evidence,” he said, along with “persuasive” evidence of a motive. He has not spelled out the alleged motive.

Flippo said his office has come to no conclusion about whether the homicide case is connected to 300 marijuana plants found Feb. 2 growing in Crow’s home in the 7600 block of Chester Drive in Prunedale. Crow reportedly has a medical marijuana prescription.

Crow and Ryann Bunnell Crow were married in Las Vegas in August after a brief courtship.
