A windy, bumpy road down the canyon

If you ever take the scenic drive on San Juan Canyon Road over the mountains, you’ll probably notice the stark contrast between the jerkiness of the ride before and after crossing the county line. That’s because the maintenance to the mountain-pass road on the San Benito County side – compared with the Monterey County side – is severely lacking. The roadway is one of the more enjoyable routes as drivers head on over to the Monterey Bay area and it has potential to highlight our area’s beauty, if drivers can deal with the bumpiness on our end of the hill.

When phoned this week, neither county roads official Mike Watson nor department director Janelle Cox could be reached before press time about a time frame of any potential plans to improve the drive.
