Showers Sunday and Monday scattered about an inch of rain across most parts San Benito County, but that might be the end of the water show this week.
“This is it,” said Steve Anderson, a forecaster with the National Weather Service’s forecast office for Monterey and the San Francisco Bay Area. “It will be clearing and drying out through the week.”
Hollister received 0.94 inches of water Monday and 0.12 inches Sunday, Anderson said. Pinnacles National Park reported 0.62 inches of rain between 4 p.m. Sunday and 4 p.m. Monday, while Paicines reported 0.97 inches of water in the same time frame, the forecaster said.
The next few days will be chilly with lows in the 30s and highs in the 60s, Anderson said. Then, it will warm to highs in the 70s by the end of the week, he said.
With a strong El Niño in effect, the chances are fairly high that precipitation will be at least a little bit higher than normal, the forecaster said. Even if there is a lot of rain, it won’t immediately get rid of the drought, he explained.
“It’s not going to get rid of the drought altogether because the drought’s been over three years in the making,” he said. “One year is not going to solve that.”
