Gavilan’s two-run sixth enough to put away De Anza
Gilroy
A two-run sixth inning was just enough for the Gavilan softball team last Thursday, as the Rams edged visiting De Anza 2-0 in Coast Conference play.
Gavilan is now 6-6 in the Coast Conference – South, 22-13 overall.
Danielle Hernandez pitched a complete game two-hitter for Gavilan, and struck out three in the process to earn the win.
The Rams did all their damage in the sixth, and did all their damage on a single play in that particular inning.
After Anicia Ceballos and Danielle Scibuola singled on to start the inning, Amanda Perez’ single scored Ceballos on a play at the plate.
The ball got away from the catcher, however, and Scibuola also scored on the same play, and supplied Gavilan with enough offense for the win.
Alicia Reese was the lone Ram to have a multi-hit game.
The Rams will play at Mission College Tuesday at 3 p.m., at Chabot College Wednesday at 3 p.m., and return home to Gilroy Thursday to host Ohlone College at 3 p.m.
