Gilroy – Haylie Cloud pitched a one-hitter and Gavilan used two big innings to crush Foothill College 17-2 in a Coast Conference game called in the fifth inning because of the mercy rule.

Other than the second inning when the Owls got their one hit and both of their runs, Cloud was in command, striking out six. She also knocked in five runs.

The Rams (12-23 overall, 4-10 conference) scored six runs in the first and seven runs in the fourth. Amanda Rosevear, who had two hits and five RBI, had a bases-loaded double in the fourth.

Gavilan collected 10 hits, had nine walks and three batters hit by pitch. Megan Smart singled and drew four walks. Tiffany McIntosh was hit twice by pitch.

“We shouldn’t have given up two runs, but we answered back right away,” Gavilan coach Nikki Dequin-Thompson said. “We shut them down defensively after that and Haylie pitched great from there on out.”

The Rams are at home for a 3pm game Thursday against College of San Mateo.
