City tells residents to report outages to PG&E

A resident called the Red Phone this week to complain about streetlights at Briggs Alley and Powell Street that have been out for several weeks.

The resident said he has called the Hollister Public Works Department to report the problem. He was upset when told by a city worker that Hollister public works does not handle streetlight outages, and was informed he should call Pacific Gas & Electric to report the problem. The resident also was concerned about the area with the outages because he said there is a lot of gang activity there.

Public works personnel did confirm the city refers residents to PG&E when they have such complaints. City Manager Clint Quilter clarified that the lights are typically owned by the utility. They are different than the pedestrian lights downtown that are, indeed, owned by Hollister.

The city tells residents to call PG&E at 1-800-PGE-5000 or go to the website pge.com. They should have the pool number from the light when calling.
