Dear Editor:
On March 21, 2003, Sam Farr (CA 17th Congressional District) voted “present” for the House Continuing Resolution 104, “expressing the support and appreciation of the nation for the president and the members of the armed forces who are participating in Operation Iraqi Freedom.”
Less than a week later, on March 27, Sam Farr voted no for the House Resolution 153 “recognizing the public need for fasting and prayer in order to secure the blessings and protection of providence for the people of the United States and our armed forces during the conflict in Iraq and under the threat of terrorism at home.”
I can understand a person’s distaste for war. I cannot understand their absence of appreciation for the sacrifices our military personnel.
It is the armed forces that protect Sam Farr’s freedom to be who he is.
It was no surprise that Sam Farr voted against H.R.1559 “Emergency Wartime Supplemental Appropriations Act.” At least John Kerry voted for the Senate version before he voted against it.
Mark Risley, candidate for the 17th Congressional District of California, will support our armed forces.
He will even support the people of the United States “under the threat of terrorism at home.”
Sam Farr chose not to support either.
Marvin L. Jones,
Hollister
