No race seems to be running closer locally than the Board of

It’s rare that an incumbent should not be returned to office, especially when he has proven himself to be in sync with the needs of his vast and rural district. As the county pondered a growth cap two years ago, Rodrigues recommended it be the strict 1 percent limit it is today. He voted in favor of a dark skies ordinance limiting light to protect celestial views, especially at Fremont Peak and Pinnacles National Monument. Despite public opinion, he was the lone vote on the board to keep a controversial coyote-trapping program in place because it was the will of his ranching constituents. Over the past year he has been lobbying Sacramento and environmental groups to bring attention to the mercury pollution coming from the New Idria mines. We need that work to continue.

While both candidates are capable, The Pinnacle endorses Ron Rodrigues for the experience and valuable state-government contacts he brings to the job.
