regular season match

The San Benito girls golf team fell to Salinas 172-200 Monday at the Ridgemark Golf and Country Club in Hollister, and completed the final scheduled home meet of the season.

Salinas’ Taylor Camany earned medalist honors when she shot a 37 on the front nine of the Gabilan Course.

Once again, though, the Lady ‘Balers were led by a different golfer as Nicole Rianda shot a 48 to pace the team. Teammate Alexis Sanchez shot a 49 for San Benito.

“Not one has surfaced to the top,” said coach Chris Branon, who would like to see his team shooting consistently in the 40s. “They’ve all matured and are getting better all at the same level, which is interesting.

“And they’re all going south. They’re all going forward.”

Jenny Glosser carded a 50 for the Lady ‘Balers, while Jordan Davies (53), Yumi Kimura (54) and Katie Moeller (58) rounded out the team.

San Benito has one more match in their regular season, and will visit the Gilroy Golf Course Wednesday in a dual with the Mustangs. Tee time is 3 p.m.

Next Monday, San Benito will be competing in the TCAL Finals at the Salinas Golf and Country Club.

On Tuesday and Thursday of this week, though, the Lady ‘Balers will be conducting their qualifier matches to see who’ll compete in the end-of-season tournament. Branon has seven possible players for six qualifying spots, and each respective player will compete in a 12-hole playoff over two days to see who will advance to compete in the TCAL Finals on Oct. 27.
