After going undefeated in both district and state tournament play, a pair of San Benito Babe Ruth All-Star teams saw their season end in the ultra-competitive Pacific Southwest Regionals.
The 15-and-under team went 2-2 at its regional in Ukiah, dropping an 8-5 decision to Santa Maria on Thursday in an elimination game. The 14-and-under team also went 2-2 in its regional in Arizona. The squad opened up with a 6-1 victory over tournament host Surprise before losing to Hawaii 13-4.
It rebounded nicely with a 13-4 win over South Sevier of Utah before losing to Hamilton of Arizona 8-4 in an elimination game on July 31. Isaiah Bueno, the team’s No. 3 hitter and a pitcher/infielder, was named to the all-tournament team. The entire squad also received the team sportsmanship award.
Jake Ito tossed a complete-game in the team’s opening-round win. The 15s team opened up regional play with a 3-0 loss to Southern California representative Torrance before responding with a 6-0 win over South Reno and a 20-1 victory over Taylorsville, the Northern Utah representative.
