The Haybalers had no trouble scoring buckets in the 88-40 win Monday night at Greenfield even with the second and third team playing most of the game.

San Benito moved to 9-2 in the early season, while Gonzalez dropped to 2-5. All 14 of the Baler players were able to score buckets in the game.

“It was a good game for us,” said Baler coach David Kaplansky. “It was nice to go with a 14-man rotation. We came out and played hard in the first two quarters, which was the difference in the game.”

Eric Davis led the Balers with 16 points, including four three-pointers – all scored in the first half. None of the starting five played in the second half, Kaplansky said.

Colin Parker scored all 15 of his points in the second half. Jason Sims had 10 points to score in double figures for the second straight game.

Danny Isaacson and Henry Taylor both contributed with six points each.

Ian Whitley played well off the bench, rebounding and getting open looks at the basket.

The Balers came out with a 20-7 lead and then outscored Gonzalez 27-4 in the second.

“We kind of changed it up and went to a full-court pressure to allow us get some easy layups,” Kaplansky said.

It will be the last breather the Balers will get this season. San Benito will play at James Lick on Saturday at 7 p.m. The Balers will see Pacific Grove, St. Francis, Seaside and Monte Vista Christian before opening up league at Live Oak on Jan. 15.

“This team is starting to find themselves,” Kaplansky said. “We are starting to communicate more as a team and are starting to build the intensity and enthusiasm. We will take a couple days off this week then get back to work Friday.”
