The Hollister girls varsity team improved to 9-0 with a win over North County in the Hartnell Summer League. The varsity girls have won two tournaments this summer and are undefeated in league play.
They have won the North Salinas Jackson All-Star and the Stockton Blazer tournaments. The girls are averaging 47 points a game this summer with a running clock.
The Balers are holding their opponents to an average of 24 points. The team has had strong defensive play from Johni Kiesewetter, Jennifer Anaya, Marlene Ramirez, Kristina Leal, Erika Rodriguiz, Jamie Hall and Jamie Flores.
Offensively, Trisha Lee, Jamie Hall, JT Temporino, Ariel Romero, Jessica Guterrez and Flores have had a majority of the points. The Balers have 13 more games at Hartnell and a tournament in Reno in July.
“What I’ve been impressed with most is the ball movement and the cutting the girls are doing now,” said Baler coach Tom Dean. “They are recognizing double teams and are dishing off and are really doing well on the fast break.”
The three teams in the junior varsity summer league being played every Tuesday and Thursday at San Benito High are also doing well. The Balers are the only school with four teams playing this summer.
Players who have shown so far include Britt Howell, Jorden Lee, Bre Romero, Brittany Saza, Emily Kortsen, Alison Sharp, Jayme Telles, Arrissa Gutierras, Katie Obrien, Brittany Goytia, Kelsey Jackson, Katie Vest, Jessica Guterrez and Hailey Kemp. Several of these girls are playing with the varsity girls in tournaments and at Hartnell.
