San Benito County’s unemployment rate continued a dismal trend upward again in January when it increased to 14.8 percent.
The figure, which is not seasonally adjusted, rose from 12.1 percent to 14.8 percent between December and January, according to data from the California Employment Development Department. It signaled that San Benito County has followed the national trend as the recession deepens. Nationwide in January, the rate rose from 7.6 percent to 8.1 percent, and in California it increased from 8.7 percent to 10.1 percent, according to the figures.
In San Benito County, 22,500 citizens in the workforce were employed while 3,900 were not employed.
