The transition from high school to college will be a little easier for a pair of local graduates who are both being awarded $2,000 scholarships.

The San Juan Oaks Foundation selected two graduates, one from San Benito High School and one from Anzar High School, as recipients of its sixth annual scholarship award.

The Foundation has granted a $2,000 scholarship to graduating seniors from Anzar and SBHS since 1997. This year’s recipients are Casey Norton, from Anzar, and Caleb Gesek of SBHS.

Both award winners have outstanding academic and extracurricular high school records.

Norton compiled a 3.9 grade point average at Anzar, won best offensive volleyball player in her sophomore year and contributed to the team’s winning the CCS championship this season. Through her church, Norton was active in the community as party of various events including Assistance In Mission, a group dedicated to helping staff summer camp for families and children. Norton will be attending Knox College in Galesburg, Ill.

Gesel compiled a 4.68 grade point average at San Benito High School, which was second in his class of 500 graduates. He was involved in track and field, was an active member of the San Benito County Youth Council and a team leader on several Mexico Outreach mission trips. Gesek will be attending the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena.

The San Juan Oaks Foundation contributes to the future education of these two outstanding high school graduates.
