A 69-year-old San Marcos woman was killed on Highway 152 when she drifted into oncoming traffic Saturday afternoon, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The Santa Clara County Coroner’s Office on Monday identified the victim as Virginia Haines.
The accident occurred at 2:30 p.m. Saturday April 16, east of San Felipe Road, according to a press release from the CHP. Authorities pronounced her dead at the scene, according to the statement.
CHP personnel diverted traffic around the collision scene during the investigation, according to the statement.
The San Marcos resident had been driving a 2009 Scion XD eastbound on State Route 152 when, “for an unknown reason,” she drifted into oncoming traffic and collided with the front of a 2006 Dodge pickup truck with a trailer, driven by Richard Fields, 41, of Gilroy, according to the press release. Fields complained of pain after the accident, according to the CHP.
