Hollister – The San Benito High School Board of Trustees voted unanimously to purchase a new auto-dial system that is expected to increase both school attendance and revenue at its meeting Wednesday night.

The new telephone dialing system, called Connect-Ed, will be paid for with money from a one-time grant and funds from the district’s general fund.

The new system will cost $11,792 a year, about $10,000 more than the previous, outdated system.

The first year, $6,000 in federal funds will be available toward the auto-dial program as part of No Child Left Behind. Board members stipulated that in the following years at least half of the money used for the system come from categorical funding.

Administrators are hoping the system will at least partially pay for itself. The system is used to report student absences and for general communication with parents. They are hoping better communication will lead to better attendance. State school funding for schools is directly linked to daily attendance.
