Downtown Hollister drivers.

Scarecrows have invaded San Benito Street! Or at least the window of one downtown storefront.

The San Benito County Chamber of Commerce is holding a scarecrow contest through the month of October. Seven scarecrows on display at 620 San Benito St. were built by businesses including Landscape Design by Rosemary Bridwell, Andy’s All About Fruit, Heritage Bank of Commerce, Chamberlain’s Children Center, AAA/NCNU, A Tool Shed, and North Coast Medical Inc.

According to the chamber of commerce, participants received a bag of goodies and were required to use everything in the bag when building their scarecrows.
This is the first year the nonprofit organization has put on the scarecrow contest, but the group mentioned it wants to continue the event in the future.

Residents can vote for their favorite through the chamber’s Facebook page, emailing [email protected] or calling the chamber office at (831) 637-5315.
