Brittney N. Matthews and Joseph E. Aragon are engaged to be married.
Brittney, daughter of Scott Matthews of Morgan Hill and Sabrina Provencio of Gilroy and cherished granddaughter of Jackie Matthews of Morgan Hill, is a 2006 graduate of Live Oak High School. She is currently a student in early childhood development at Gavilan College.
Joseph, son of John L. Aragon, Jr. and Lisa A. Aragon of Morgan Hill, is a 2006 graduate of Ann Sobrato High School. He graduated from U.S. Navy basic training in Great Lakes, Ill., April 17. He is currently stationed at Pensacola, Fla. where he is attending A-School in Aviation Electronics.
Joseph proposed to Brittney April 18 atop the ferris wheel at the Navy Pier in Chicago, Ill., overlooking Lake Michigan and the Chicago skyline. The pair met at Gavilan College in 2007, started dating in January 2008 and fell in love shortly thereafter.
The couple has not yet set a wedding date.

Gavin James Contreras was born Dec. 26, 2008 at Sutter Medical Center of Santa Rosa to Melanie and Jaime Contreras of Petaluma. He weighed 3 pounds.
ANNIVERSARIES
Brocks celebrate 50 years
Ken and Darlene Brock will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary June 21. The couple, from Morgan Hill, were married June 21, 1959.
Palaos celebrate 37 years
Steve and Gloria Palao will celebrate their 37th wedding anniversary May 24. The couple was married in the Philippines May 24, 1972. They will have a small party on May 31.
McClellans celebrate one year
Timothy and Nancy McClellan will celebrate their first anniversary with friends and family at a Hawiian luau Saturday. They will spend Memorial Day, their actual anniversary, in Marina.
HONORS
Michael Wagle
Major Michael P. Wagle, a 1994 graduate of Live Oak High School, is a C130 special operations and combat rescue pilot attached to the 130th Rescue Wing, Moffett Field. He is presently stationed in Djibouti, Africa, providing combat search and rescue support for the Combined Joint Task Force – Horn of Africa.
Michael was part of the rescue teams for the hurricanes in the southern United States, the California wildfires, and rescue support for people at sea when they are out of range of the Coast Guard. He is an approved Air Force flight instructor.
He received a bachelor’s degree in aeronautical engineering from Embry Riddle University and has served three tours of duty in Iraq and two in Somalia.
Michael, son of Mickey and Mary Wagle of Morgan Hill, lives with his wife, Brynn, and three children, Parker, Mackenzie, and Madison, in Los Banos.
Elizabeth Malech
Elizabeth Malech of Morgan Hill recently earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration at William Jessup University, the greater Sacramento area’s only private four year residential university.
While at Jessup, Elizabeth managed the campus coffee shop. She is a graduate of Vine Academy and the daughter of Roger and Cera Malech.
Seth Whitney
Seth E. Whitney, of Gilroy, joined the United States Navy and graduated from basic training located at Great Lakes, Ill., Sept. 14, 2007. He received a sharp shooter ribbon for the M9 (service pistol) and was the Yeoman for his division. After graduation, he transferred to San Antonio, Texas, to complete training for his job as Master at Arms.
Seth, son of Harvey and Sue Whitney, received an expert rating in both the M9 and M16 (assault rifle). The MA rating is the Navy’s security specialists who perform antiterrorism, force protection, physical security and law enforcement duties. Seth graduated from MA School in December 2007. After graduation, Seth was transferred to NSA Bahrain and just received his advancement as a Petty Officer 3rd Class or MA3. He will continue to serve in Bahrain until the end of 2009.
