Flores/Anderson engagement

ENGAGEMENT: Flores/Anderson: Melissa Ann Flores and James Oscar Anderson are excited to be planning a June 15, 2013 wedding.

The couple met in 2000 while they were both working at San Jose State University. The two began dating in 2010. Anderson proposed in February at Il Forniao, an Italian restaurant in downtown San Jose, a few blocks from where the couple first met.

Flores graduated from Gilroy High School in 1996. She has a bachelor’s degree in psychology and media studies, from Pitzer College, and a master’s in print journalism, from the University of Southern California’s Annenberg School for Communication. She is the city editor of the Hollister Free Lance and has worked for Mainstreet Media Group for seven years. Flores is the daughter of Richard and Victoria Flores, of Gilroy.

Anderson graduated from Turlock High School in 1996. He has a bachelor’s degree in computer engineering from San Jose State University. He works as a programmer/analyst at San Jose State University, where he has been employed for 13 years. Anderson is the son of John Anderson, of Modesto, and Kathy Lancaster, of Mariposa.

The couple plan to be wed at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Gilroy with family and close friends in attendance, with a reception to follow at Guglielmo Winery’s Villa Emile Event Center in Morgan Hill.

Eryn Holm

Eryn Holm, a communication studies major and Morgan Hill resident, made the academic Dean’s List at Azusa Pacific University with a 3.5 grade-point average or better. Azusa Pacific University is an evangelical, Christian university committed to God first and excellence in higher education located 26 miles northeast of Los Angeles.

Lynda Kerr

Lynda Kerr is Gavilan College’s Employee of the Month for July 2012. Lynda is a senior program services specialist in the Student Services Department and has been with Gavilan College since 1989. Lynda has gone above and beyond with getting the Welcome Center up and running, recruiting and training Rambassadors and generally revitalizing and increasing the visibility of outreach to new students. She has done an outstanding job in the College’s efforts to encourage students to use online services like MyGav, obtain parking permits online and access the FAFSA website.

Alexander Hughes

Alexander Hughes of Hollister was named to the Dean’s List at Arizona State University for the spring semester where he is studying environmental technology management. Undergraduate students who earn 12 or more semester hours with a GPA of 3.50 or higher are eligible for the Dean’s List.

Jose Antonio Barradas-Baeza

Jose Antonio Barradas-Baeza, of Gilroy, was named an All-American Scholar by the United States Achievement Academy. Jose, who attends South Valley Middle School, was nominated by Elena Hossain. He will appear in the All-American Scholar Yearbook, which is published annually.

Jose is the son of Reyna Baeza and Eliezer Barradas of Veracruz, Mexico and grandson of Dimas Baeza and Maximina Rodriguez, and Adan and Ceberina Barradas, all of Veracruz.

Marissa Kissinger

Air Force Airman Marissa R. Kissinger graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.

The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills. Airmen who complete basic training earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.

Kissinger is the daughter of Jim Kissinger of Gilroy, and Donna Kissinger of Coulterville. She is a 2010 graduate of Ann Sobrato High School.
