BIRTHDAY: Bethel Tipton: Bethel Tipton, a Hollister resident of nearly 70 years, celebrated her 100th birthday June 30, 2014 at a luncheon at Ridgemark. More than 30 members of her family—spanning four generations—gathered in her honor. She has resided at Mabe Northside for a number of years.

Locals make dean’s list at Wake Forest

Kiley Woodward
Kiley Woodward traveled to El Salvador this summer as a team leader on a Simpson University WorldSERVE team. She is from Morgan Hill and is majoring in psychology.
Partnering with Salvadoran church leaders, the El Salvador team talked with families who were interested in learning more about God.
More than 100 Simpson University students on 14 WorldSERVE teams traveled around the world in spring and summer 2014 to provide service to different communities. To be eligible for the WorldSERVE program, a student must go through an interview process and be carefully chosen for a specific team.
Monica Rowan
Air Force Reserve Airman 1st Class Monica M. Rowan graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio, Texas.
The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness and basic warfare principles and skills. Airmen who complete basic training earn four credits toward an associate’s degree through the Community College of the Air Force.
Rowan is the daughter of Lloyd L. Baker of Kingsport, Tenn. and Maria S. Loury of Vista. She is a 2000 graduate of San Benito High School and earned an associate’s degree in 2003 from Butte Community College.
