San Benito Stage Company is wrapping up its summer production this coming weekend, with a discount show planned Thursday for those who give back through service.
The Hollister-based stage company’s three-week run of “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” comes to an end Saturday, but that also means locals have three more opportunities to watch the latest local production.
There are shows set for 7 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday at the Granada Theatre, 336 Fifth St. in Hollister. Tickets are $16 for general admission and $13 for children or adults. Four-packs are $48. Those tickets are available at Postal Graphics, 1760 Airline Highway, or by going to brownpapertickets.com.
On Thursday night for a special event, the stage company is presenting a community service show. It means anyone who shows up in uniform (many Boy Scouts, 4-H and Future Farmers of America youth have taken part) will get in for $5, said Anne Hall, president of the stage company’s board of directors.
As for the choice of “Dreamcoat” as the summer show, Hall said it has broad appeal.
“It’s a very family-friendly show,” she said. “We just try to do different types of shows. It’s really more of an opera than a musical.”
Hall added how actors sing all of the musical’s lines and that the chorus is “very important.” She said there are more singing and dancing elements than members initially realized.
“They’re pretty much always on stage and always moving for the most part,” she said of participants.
After this show, the stage company will focus on the teen production, with auditions set for Aug. 13-18. It is tentatively scheduled to open Oct. 28 at the Granada.
“Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” is described on the San Benito Stage Company website as the following:
“The Biblical saga of Joseph and his coat of many colors comes to life. The timeless story of the favorite son sold into slavery is set to an engaging cornucopia of musical styles, …”
