San Juan Oaks Golf Club will be the host site for the ESPN National Golf Challenge.

PGA professional Fred Couples, who co-designed the course, is the event spokesperson with proceeds benefiting The V Foundation for cancer and research and The First Tee for junior golf.

This is a grassroots event wherein two-person teams qualify at 120 host sites nationwide during the month of May. All amateurs with an established handicap are eligible to form a two-person team, make a tee time at the host site and play. All scoring is done by the host site.

There will be a scoreboard in the clubhouse showing the top 10 teams. Teams are eligible to try to qualify as many times as they like.

The top 10 teams from each home site then play off with the winning team from each site competing in the finals on July 15 at Lost Canyons Golf Club in Simi Valley.

The winners will be the guests of ESPN at the 2003 ESPY Awards in Los Angeles and receive a special edition ESPY.
