Organizers of this year’s Small Steps shopping spree are pleading for help from the community. The group needs monetary donations so that 250 disadvantaged students can shop for winter jackets at Target and winter shoes at Payless ShoeSource Nov. 1.

The group originally wanted to invite 300 students, but has struggled getting donations and volunteers. Teachers are starting to pick which 250 students should go, but Small Steps members don’t want to invite students they don’t have enough money for.

Since each child receives $75 to shop, Small Steps will need $18,750 in donations. The shopping spree will start at 7 a.m. Nov. 1.

Small Steps, a local non-profit group, is organizing the fifth annual event.

Details: 638-2111. Mail donations made payable to Small Steps to Small Steps, P.O. Box 2137, Hollister, CA 95024.
