Editor,

Happy New Year. I can’t believe 2005 is almost over. I feel there is so much we have to be thankful for.

First, the beautiful county we live in and the peace we have been enjoying. I’d like to thank, and all the public should too, the county administrators, our Board of Supervisors, all the department heads and all of the people in law enforcement, who many times put their lives in danger to protect us all. To everyone who contributed to peace and prosperity, to the media including the Free Lance and Pinnacle for keeping us well informed and bringing us home the news and entertainment. To our church leaders who motivate us to live under control.

This is not without sacrifice, to the ones in the armed forces all over the world, especially in Iraq. To all of them, we should say, “Thank You.” We are thinking about you and appreciate your hard work and sacrifice to keep peace. To the ones who lost their lives in the war, we are sorry and send our sincerest condolences to all of the families and hope God has taken care of their souls. One day we will all join you. We will continue to pray for their souls and also for comfort to their loved ones.

We had a great Christmas. I’d like to thank my son and daughter-in-law who came from so far away to share Christmas with us. Our granddaughter, Amanda, all the way from Texas and grandson, Adam, from Cal Poly, our local daughter and family, Mary and George, granddaughter Shannon and family, granddaughter Tessa and granddaughter Kristin and especially for their company.

We can’t buy age, now it is one day at a time. I’d like to start the New Year with a resolution, something I will be able to afford but also something that I feel can make me a better person. I just hope you all feel the same way. We, together, can make the county and the world a better place for all. God bless America and all of the world, the poor, the less fortunate, the sick, the homeless and our president.

I didn’t vote for George – I felt good about the Democrat – but I know he is my president and I hate what I see in cartoons and jokes that put him down. Remember, this is not an easy job! We all should wish him a better New Year. To all who care to help others. To the ones who believe in the future and dedicate themselves to that, we wish you a great and happy New Year. God bless us all.
