SOLEDAD

Despite trailing just 2-1 at halftime, the Anzar High boys’ soccer team allowed four second-half goals on Wednesday in a 6-1 loss to host Soledad in Mission Trail Athletic League action.

It was the league opener for the Hawks, who had their previous two contests postponed. Anzar is now 0-1 in the MTAL, 1-3 overall.

Soledad jumped out to a 2-0 lead early in the first half when Anzar’s Eduardo Campos cut the deficit in the 25th minute with a driving goal that found the lower left corner to make it a 2-1 game.

The score held until halftime, but Soledad managed to add four insurance goals to its tally in the second half.

“In the second half, we played much better. But we couldn’t convert,” Anzar head coach Carlos Vargas said.

“We missed a lot of opportunities in the first half.”

The Hawks will have a chance to rebound on Friday when they will host Stevenson in San Juan Bautista. Kickoff is 4 p.m.
