The Anzar High boys soccer team cut the deficit in half but could not find the equalizing goal on Friday against Silver Creek, as the host Raiders jumped out to a 2-0 lead and held on for a 3-1 win in San Jose.

The non-conference match drops the Hawks to 1-2 on the season.

After a scoreless first half, Silver Creek grabbed a two-goal lead in the second stanza. But Anzar cut Silver Creek’s lead in half in the 69th minute, when Hawk Carlos Gonzalez found the back of the net to make it a 2-1 game.

But while Anzar was searching for the game-tying goal in the last 11 minutes of play, Silver Creek deposited an insurance goal late to provide a 3-1 cushion.

Anzar will return to San Jose on Tuesday to take on Harker in its final non-conference match before league play begins. Match time is 2:30 p.m.
