MONTEREY
Behind a hat trick from Monica Medina and another shutout performance by the Hawks’ defense, the Anzar High girls’ soccer team posted a 7-0 victory over host Trinity Christian on Wednesday in Coastal Athletic League action.
The win keeps the Hawks perfect in CAL play. At 6-4-1 overall and now 4-0 in league, Anzar has also managed to shutout each of its four league opponents to date, outscoring Kirby, Marina, Pacific Collegiate and now Trinity Christian by a 24-0 margin.
Wednesday’s match against Trinity stayed true with Anzar’s other league games to date. The Hawks jumped out to a 4-0 lead at halftime, then went ahead and scored three more goals in the latter 40 minutes.
It was Brianna Miltimore who supplied Anzar with all the scoring support it would need when she staked the Hawks to a 1-0 lead in the 15th minute off an assist from Lauren Bellone.
Bellone then added to the Hawks’ lead 10 minutes later off an assist by Ali Bautista, while Bautista made it 3-0 five minutes later off an assist by Bellone.
Bellone then had her third assist of the game when she set up Hakima Hossainzadeh in the 38th minute to supply Anzar with a four-goal lead just before halftime.
In the second half, it was the Monica Medina show. The Anzar sophomore scored in the 52nd minute and again in the 57th minute — with both goals set up by Jessica Stofer. She then scored again in the 75th minute off an assist by Hossainzadeh to complete the three-goal hat trick.
Anzar will look to continue its shutout steak on Friday when it returns to Monterey to take on York. Kickoff is 4 p.m.
