Using a quick-strike score to open both the first and second halves, the Los Altos boys soccer team defeated San Benito 3-0 on Saturday in the Homestead Christmas Cup XVI tournament at De Anza College in San Jose.

Los Altos deposited goals in the 2nd minute and the 42nd minute — just two minutes into the second half — to drop the Balers to 0-2 on the early season.

“Right away,” San Benito head coach Ramiro Ramos said. “They caught us off guard.”

Los Altos pocketed its third goal of the game at around the 70th minute.

“My defense was a little confused back there,” Ramos said. “I was trying to mark one of their guys, who was very, very fast.

“But he was too fast … couldn’t keep up with him.”

San Benito will play in a non-conference match at King City on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. The Balers will continue play at the Christmas Cup on Saturday at Willow Glen against The King’s Academy. Kick-off is 12 p.m.
