Continuing to move in the right direction, the San Benito boys’ soccer team earned its second league win last Thursday when it shutout host Everett Alvarez 4-0 in Salinas behind a pair of goals from Brian Cruz.

Cruz deposited his first goal — the eventual game-winner — in the seventh minute off a free kick from just outside the 18, and later added his second goal of the game in the 75th minute off an assist by Ivan Martinez, a goal that staked the Balers to a four-goal lead.

In between, Martin Navarro made it a 2-0 San Benito lead in the 33rd minute after he swiped possession from an Alvarez defender and converted on a 1-on-1 situation with the Eagles keeper, while Francisco Palomino made it a three-goal effort for the Balers when he found the back of the net in the 56th minute.

San Benito led 2-0 at halftime, and improves to 2-3-1 in the Tri-County Athletic League, 8-3-2 overall as a result. The Balers will visit North Salinas on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m.
