The San Benito boys soccer team continued its impressive start on Thursday when it defeated visiting King City by a 2-1 margin in non-conference play in Hollister.

After both teams went scoreless in the first half, the Balers jumped out to a two-goal lead early in the latter stanza before King City tacked on its lone goal in the waning moments of regulation.

San Benito’s Francisco Palomino made it a 1-0 contest off an assist by Ricardo Roque in the 55th minute. It was Roque again setting up the second goal as well, delivering a pass to Steven Mercado in the 65th minute to put the Balers up 2-nil.

King City didn’t find the back of the net until the 75th minute, ending the shutout.

The win improves San Benito to 5-0 this season. The team will play in the Alumni Game on Saturday at 12:30 p.m.

Otherwise, the Balers will be off until Jan. 4, 2011, when they will kickoff the new year with a home game against Carmel. Game time is 3:30 p.m.
